Belkyra®

Belkyra®
An injectable treatment that contains synthesised deoxycholic acid.

Fullness under the chin is a common concern for men and women alike. A range of causative factors have been implicated including ageing, genetics and fluctuations in weight. In some patients, this fullness persists despite an appropriate diet and exercise programme.

Belkyra® is an injectable treatment that contains synthesised deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, where it assists in the breakdown of dietary fat. When injected below the chin, Belkyra® causes permanent destruction of fat cells reducing the volume of fat present, resulting in a more contoured neck profile and jawline. It is an excellent non-surgical option for those wishing to make their double chin single.

FAQs

Belkyra® is administered in Dr Collins’ clinic. Prior to your treatment, you will receive an icepack to numb the treatment area and/or topical or injectable local anaesthetic to make you more comfortable. It is also advisable to take over-the-counter pain relief before your appointment. A series of injections are administered into the area under your chin at each session.

Many patients see a visible improvement in their chin profile in 2 treatments with  Belkyra®. Some require 4-6 treatments in order to achieve the best possible cosmetic result. The best outcomes are seen when treatments are administered 8 weeks apart.

Once you have achieved your desired result, additional treatments may not be required. The results are maintained for at least 4 years.

Whilst Belkyra® won’t restrict your day to day activities, it is normal to experience neck swelling after your treatment so you may not wish to go straight back to work. The swelling can last for up to 14 days.

As with any treatment, there are risks involved. Most patients experience mild to moderate pain. As well as neck swelling, the formation of firm, hard areas is not uncommon and they can take a little while to resolve. There is also a risk of bruising, redness, tingling and itching. There are rarer complications that can occur, including trouble swallowing, an uneven smile, taste disturbances, hair loss and ulcers at the injection sites.

Your treatment will be customised depending on your own unique anatomy. The volume of product, in addition to the number of treatments required will determine the total cost. In general the cost per treatment is $1500. There is a discounted rate available for patients who purchase two treatments up front of $2800. Two treatments is the recommended minimum. If additional product is required, this will incur an additional charge.
